Fractals provide you with interesting artwork, if you are looking for something special to place on your web site or other projects. FractalToy gives you full control over a fractal. It allows you to zoom in on any coordinates, take screenshots and more. The application is very lightweight and it provides a variety of fractals and color pallets.

You can have FractalToy up and running in a few moments. It consists of a single Java file, which is only 547 KB. The application is free and you can run it on any operating system that supports Java. The developers are still working on FractalToy, so you can expect updates.

The application places different types of fractals at your disposal and you can select one from a sub-menu. Additionally, you can select different color pallets, from a different menu and set the application to cycle through the colors automatically.

You may select a hand or a magnifying tool, above the fractal itself, to pan in any direction or to zoom in or out. While panning and zooming, you may bring up coordinates, on a separate window, where you can also draw a rectangle, to zoom in on a specific region.

Other options, placed on the application's toolbar, allow you to return to your previous view coordinates instantly or to return to the original zoom level, which encompasses the entire fractal. An important feature is the possibility of setting a maximum number of iterations for the fractal. If you want to go deeper, you should specify a higher number. You can also take a screenshot at any time. Before saving the image, you may define its height, width, aspect ratio and tick an option to enforce your aspect ratio.

Pros

The application allows you to decide on the fractal's depth. You may select different fractals and color pallets, zoom in to specific coordinates, take screenshots and more. FractalToy can be downloaded very fast, even with slower connections and it doesn't need to be installed.

Cons

There is no option for enabling a continuous zoom. FractalToy gives you the possibility of zooming in anywhere on a fractal, which can be as deep or shallow as you want.
